They did it!

The Flyers are moving on to the Playoffs after a nail bitting victory over the Rangers.

Philadelphia and New York traded shots early with the Rangers striking first off a deflection from new Flyers killer Jody Shelley.

After the goal the Rangers appeared to shut things down  and hold on for dear life.

New York was no doubt satisfied with dumping the puck in and killing time. Though the Rangers prevent style didn’t stop the Flyers from getting their chances.

Philadelphia hit two posts within a few minutes of each other during the first period, one by Richards and one by Gagne, but neither found the themselves behind the goal line.

The 1-0 score lasted all the way up until about half way through the third when a rebound off a Briere one timer found its way into the slot where Carle jumped up on the play and hammered it past Henrik.

The Flyers survived a small wave by the Rangers who attempted to reclaim the lead late in the 3rd, but the game remained tied and went to OT.

There were several chances on both sides during the overtime session, but nobody could find the net.

So to the shootout we go.

The Flyers eleceted to shoot first, and the decision payed off as Briere made a beautiful move to beat Lundqvist.

Flyers lead 1-0.

Boucher stopped the Erik Christensen.

Lundqvist stoned the Flyers captain Mike Richards.

Parenteau beat Boucher to tie things up 1-1 in the shootout.

Claude Giroux scored on a quick shot from the bottom of the circle to give the Flyers the lead once again.

So all the focus went back to Boucher.

Jokinen was the next shooter for New York and tried to get Bouch moving from right to left to open the five hole, but Boucher got the pads closed and denied the chance.

A relieved teams celebration ensued.

A few standouts performances by the Flyers were Carter, who seems to be back, Richards, Pronger, Carle and Boucher.

Hartnell also seemed to have some pep in his step, but was still making questionable decisions nearly everytime he had the puck.

But now is no time for the negatives.

Fans should be pleased with the performance this afternoon, and should look forward to the Playoffs because this team is no doubt heading in with a hot goalie and a full head of steam after today’s exhilarating win.

doode I cannot believe I saw Brian Booch win a shoot out against Lundqvist… at first I thought the shootout order should of been like this

    JRV – Captian – Giroux

and when he put Dannie Boy in I was worried, all up until he scored that goal LOL…

I cannot believe it maybe they will find some heart in this playoff…. and maybe Booch can get HOT!
