Peters Contract deal 6yr – 55mill

After agreeing to send three picks to Buffalo for left tackle Jason Peters, the Eagles signed the two-time Pro Bowler to a six-year contract. A league source told CSN’s Derrick Gunn that the deal is worth in the mid-$50 million range. The trade was contingent upon the completion of a new deal with Peters.

The Eagles sent Buffalo the 28th and 121st overall picks (first and fourth round) in next weekend’s draft and a late-round pick in next year’s draft. The Eagles still have 10 picks in this year’s draft, beginning with the 21st overall selection.

Dissatisfied with his contract – he was scheduled to make a base salary of $3.8 million this season – the 27-year-old Peters held out of training camp last year, reported to the team a day before the season opener, and had a sub-par season. Despite allowing 11½ sacks (according to Stats Inc.), he still was selected to his second straight Pro Bowl and All-Pro team. The five-year veteran was credited with only six sacks allowed in 2007.

Granted, that stat is subjective; the length of time a quarterback holds the ball or missed assignments by other linemen also contribute to sacks. Buffalo allowed 38 sacks last year, tied with Washington for 22nd in the league.

So the Eagles obviously feel last season was an aberration for Peters.

“Jason Peters is the best left tackle in football,” head coach Andy Reid in a statement released by the team. “He is a powerful and athletic tackle and I have admired his play over the last few years on film. I have always believed that success in the National Football League is derived from the strong play of the offensive and defensive lines. This off-season we have added two young, top-flight offensive linemen in Jason and Stacy Andrews.”

Great Article right here.  Take the time to read it.  Peter’s does have some flaws but heck, Andy called him the best LT in football.
