I watch most of my Phillies games in the half-dozen bars in which I rock the world’s greatest karaoke. This means, for the most part, sound down, drunk guy in my ear asking if I have ‘Friends in Low Places’, and some chick strangling Janis Joplin to a slow, painful death.
It also means I have to glean a lot of info about the game from observing the players’ on-field demeanors, something at which I’ve become pretty adept. So what did this do for me last night?
1. I knew from Pitch 1 that Durbin just didn’t have it and was PRAYING for somebody, anybody to swing at the aimless junk he was throwing up there.
2. Brad Lidge looked like Brad Lidge. There are soem other websites on these here Interwebs that went ballistic after the Yankees series, calling for his trade, release or beheading, whichever came first. And voices of reason (like mine) who pointed out that A-Rod’s Saturday HR wasn’t exactly of Epic Proportions and Sunday he was done in by 2 bleeders up the middle, were shouted down. One site in particular (which I shan’t name) was especially vicious, claiming that anyone who wanted to give Lidge a litle extra leeway to work things out based on his perfect (PERFECT) 2008 were “living in the past.”
Jeebus…
Anyway, no real point to this post other than to take an opportunity to tell all the Lidge-haters to EAT. IT.
