Whenever Cole Hamels<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> comes to town, he thinks about the first time he was on a major league mound.<\/em><\/p>\n

It was here. And it was impressive.<\/em><\/p>\n

The left-hander added another win to his resume of success in Cincinnati, going six innings to stay unbeaten against the Reds, and the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> held on Tuesday night for a 4-3 victory, their fifth in a row.<\/em><\/p>\n

The NL East leaders matched their longest winning streak of the season behind Hamels (2-2), who made his big league debut on May 12, 2006, giving up one hit in five innings at Great American Ball Park. He\u2019s always been tough on Cincinnati\u2019s predominantly left-handed lineup.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of a special place, kind of where everything started for me,\u201d said Hamels, who is 3-0 at Great American. \u201cI want to make an impact every time I come here. I know they probably don\u2019t want to see that, but that\u2019s kind of my goal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He reached it, with help from some of the Phillies\u2019 old dependables.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ryan Howard<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> hit a solo homer, and slumping Jimmy Rollins<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> doubled and scored during Philadelphia\u2019s decisive three-run fifth inning off Johnny Cueto<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> (4-2).<\/em><\/p>\n

Hamels has allowed five earned runs in 36 career innings against the Reds. He improved to 4-0 in five starts against Cincinnati, which got solo homers from Jay Bruce<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> and Jerry Hairston Jr.<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Reds have lost a season-high four straight because their depleted offense is in a rut, scoring four runs in the last 28 innings. They wasted a chance in the ninth.<\/em><\/p>\n

Closer Brad Lidge<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> had given up runs in six of his last eight appearances while boosting his ERA to 8.31. He allowed an infield single to Alex Gonzalez<\/a> and walked Laynce Nix<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> with one out in the ninth, then struck out Willy Taveras<\/a>(notes)<\/a>,<\/span> who is in an 0-for-19 slump, and retired Hairston on a routine fly.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe got runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth, but we couldn\u2019t get that big hit,\u201d Reds manager Dusty Baker said. \u201cWe had Lidge on the ropes there. We were one hit away.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Howard led off the second inning with a homer, and the Phillies went up 4-1 with three runs in the fifth.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rollins, the Phillies\u2019 dynamic leadoff hitter, has gone 8 for 22 during the winning streak, raising his average to .223 and offering hints he\u2019s getting his game together.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cJust him, who he is, brings a lot to our lineup,\u201d manager Charlie Manuel said. \u201cBut when he\u2019s hitting good, that\u2019s when we\u2019re really good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The defending World Series champions are trying to fix their rotation, which ranked last in the NL with a 6.35 ERA. Manuel demoted struggling Chan Ho Park<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> to the bullpen on Tuesday, replacing him with left-hander J.A. Happ<\/a>(notes)<\/a>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Reds opened the series unsure when they would have first baseman Joey Votto<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> back in the lineup. Votto, the Reds\u2019 top hitter at .366, came down with a severe case of the flu earlier this month and had to leave two games over the weekend in San Diego because of dizziness. He had more tests on Tuesday, and more were scheduled for the next few days.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Reds really miss him.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo question about it\u2014he\u2019s our best hitter. I know how he feels,\u201d said Hairston, who had the flu during spring training. \u201cI was sick for six or seven weeks. Just when you think you\u2019re getting better, boom, it slams you again.\u201d -yahoo.com<\/em><\/p>\n

Lidge came on in the ninth and I think we all held our breath on that one that was rather scary.\u00a0 When the game was over everyone just let out a sigh of relief you could just feel it.\u00a0 Great game though, Cole picking up yet another win against these Reds making him 4-0 all time and the Phillies are doing very well.<\/p>\n
