Daniel Carcillo was suspended for one game and coach John Stevens was fined $10,000 by the NHL on Thursday, a day after Carcillo hit Pittsburgh\u2019s Maxime Talbot in the head in the playoff opener.<\/p>\n
With 7 seconds left in the third period in the Penguins\u2019 4-1 victory Wednesday night, Carcillo delivered a blow to Talbot\u2019s head directly off a faceoff. Talbot wasn\u2019t hurt and Carcillo was not penalized for the hit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe held a conference call Monday with the general managers and coaches of playoff teams and told them explicitly we would not tolerate attempts by clubs to \u2018send a message\u2019 late in a game when the outcome had been determined,\u201d said Colin Campbell, the NHL\u2019s senior executive vice president of hockey operations.<\/p>\n
