Well last night Flyers lost to the Preds in a shoot-out.\u00a0 Which to be honest should of never got to that point because the Fly guys were down 3-1 when Leighton got injured and had to leave the game.\u00a0 The Injury is considered a high ankle sprain.\u00a0 And I know all about those.\u00a0 Having had a high ankle sprain myself in which required “clean-up” surgery that eventually evolved into reconstructive ankle surgery (which involves having a plastic dissolvable screw).\u00a0 Being called a “day to day” high ankle sprain injury is never good.\u00a0 Then again athletes today have amazing recovery times and such better equipment.<\/p>\n

Holmgren said Leighton is day-to-day “for now,” but high ankle sprains have a tendency to take a while to heal.<\/p>\n “I just went to get the puck and I got away from the net, fell back and felt something pop,” Leighton said after the game, which marked his 15th consecutive start.<\/p>\n “It was weird. Standing up I felt fine, but in my stance the pain was not going away.”<\/p>\n Leighton said he expected to have an MRI today.<\/p>\n According to a source late last night, the Flyers have promoted Adirondack Phantoms backup goalie Jeremy Duchesne, who will meet the team today in Dallas. The Flyers play the Stars tomorrow night.<\/p>\n The Phantoms’ starter, Johan Backlund, has been called up a few times this season to back up during injuries but never has appeared in a game. He probably would have been Leighton’s replacement but has an upper-body injury and did not practice yesterday with the Phantoms.<\/p>\n Duchesne, 23, was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round of the 2005 draft.
